Testimonials:

“A deep and intensive study of the meaning of Bhagavad Gita. They spent almost the whole time on one sloka [verse].” –Paul

“I’m learning a lot from this class. They don’t just repeat the scriptures but focus on opening the heart. They’ll do the reading and then share details, stories, and their own experiences. Arun shares parables and examples from science that are really interesting.

The class is very heartfelt and the association there is amazing. There’s a good feeling. Everyone is very genuine and heartfelt. It’s amazing. That’s my experience.” –Jason

Whole Earth Festival Event in Davis May 9-11th at UC Davis

All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga!

Official poster for Davis Whole Earth Festival 2014

Official festival poster

Everyone’s invited to come! Any help and extra association would be wonderful! We could use help setting up and taking down (Friday and Sunday) doing kirtan (all days), attending Maharaj’s program (Sunday), and preparing food for the devotees.

UC Davis is approximately 2 1/2 hours drive from Santa Cruz, but give a little extra time for finding it, parking and walking on campus.

Book Table and Booth

We will set up under the big shade trees in front of the cafeteria just like we did the last two years.

Bengali Devotional Songs Workshop (kirtan)

at the Sacred Space Dome
Friday 5-7 pm
Sunday 10-11
On Sunday can start the kirtan here before Maharaj comes, and then work our way over to the hall.

Srila Janardan Maharaj and hopefully Sarvabavana Prabhu will be speaking

in the Young Lecture Hall Room 198
Sunday from 11:30-1:00

Camping is at the KOA in West Sacramento. It’s about 10 miles up I-80 from Davis. If anyone wants to camp can they let me know? I have one spot good for about 4 tents, but if more people want to come I can get a second spot. There’s a pool and hot showers!

Get inspired with these related links:

Check out the official festival video from last year. Click on the first one, “WEF memories,” and we are in the first minute. It shows Maharaj and the devotees chanting in the Sacred Space Dome.

Faith in Saints or Faith in Scientists?

Posted by Hasyapriya Das on Sunday, February 3rd, 2013 in Introduction to Krishna Consciousness, Seva Ashram Post | Comments (0)

Is the scientist a noble researcher or someone who is following a lust for recognition? Are we to put our faith in their conclusions and theories when trying to understand what will give us real happiness? Our faith should be placed in the Absolute’s divine agent, the saint, Sri Guru. Read article…

Srila Govinda Maharaj

Srila Gurudev, Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, sings Sri Nama Kirttana in 2006 at the Vaishnava Festival in Lahta, Russia. Listen to the song…

Jashomati Nandana.mp3 (5 minutes, 4.9 MB)

This is the song we sing at morning and noon arotiks in the temples at Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math in India and here at the temples in San Jose and Santa Cruz.

Sri Nama-Kirttana

by Srila Bhaktivinod Thakur

( 1 )

yashomati-nandana braja-baro nagara, gokula-ranjana kana
gopi-parana-dhana madana manohara, kaliya-damana-vidhana

Sri Krishna is the beloved son of Yasodamayi, the transcendental lover of the land
of Vraja and the delight of Gokula. One of His nicknames is Kana. He is the life and
soul of the gopis. He is the enchanter of Cupid and the conqueror of the Kaliya serpent.

( 2 )

amala harinam amiya-vilasa
vipina-purandara navina nagara-bora, bamsi-badana suvasa

The Holy Names of Krisha are spotless and full of sweetness and beauty. Krishna
is the king of the forest of Vrindavan. He is the ever-fresh youth, an excellent dresser,
and the best of lovers. He always plays sweet melodies upon His flute.

( 3 )

braja-jana-palana asura-kula-nasana, nanda-godhana rakhoyala
govinda madhava navanita-taskara, sundara nanda-gopala

Krishna is the guardian of all who live in Vrindavan, and the destroyer of demons.
He tends the cows and is known as Govinda, for He delights the cows, the earthly and the spiritual
senses. He is Madhava, the husband of the goddess of fortune. Krishna, the beautiful
cowherd boy of Nanda Maharaj, loves to steal butter.

( 4 )

yamuna-tata-cara gopi-basana-hara, rasa-rasika krpamoya
Sri-radha-vallabha vrindavana-natabara, bhakativinod-asraya

Wandering on the banks of the Yamuna River, Krishna stole the garments of the
gopis while they were bathing. He enjoys the mellows of the rasa dance. He is the
most merciful, beloved lover of Srimati Radharani. He is the great dancer of
Vrindavan, and the supreme shelter of Srila Bhaktivinod Thakura.

What is the seva ashram? These days we hear words like ashram, kirtan, bhakti, yoga, very easily and very freely.
